Outdoor Escape (Grade 5 and 6)

The Outdoor Escape program offers a basic introduction to the world of outdoor activities and group development for students graduating Grade 5 and 6 (going into Grade 6 or 7). The program is five days long and all activities will be conducted out at the Gould Lake Outdoor Centre.

Campers will have the opportunity to explore Gould Lake’s trails, mines, and waters while learning new skills such as fire making, canoeing, kayaking, shelter building, and teamwork. Through hands-on activities, they’ll be challenged and motivated to try new things. With the incredible wildlife and meaningful connections they can make at Gould Lake, this camp offers a fun and unique adventure.

On the Thursday (Day 4) of your child’s camp week, Grade 6 students will have the opportunity to take part in a one-night camping experience at Gould Lake Conservation Area. This is a fun and supportive introduction to camping, where students will work together and take on new challenges as a team.

This overnight adventure is a great stepping stone for future programs such as Quest and Outreach, or simply an ideal option for students who would enjoy a shorter camping experience away from home. For added peace of mind, our campsite is located within 100 meters of the road, allowing for easy access in case of emergency or late-night pickup.

The experience will include activities such as canoeing, swimming, team challenges, canoe painting, bracelet burning, and campfire games. Students will also learn valuable outdoor skills, including setting up a tent, building a fire, and cooking a mac and cheese dinner over the campfire. We’re excited to offer this memorable and engaging experience for our Grade 6 campers!

The Outdoor Escape experience is a great start into the world of outdoor recreation and towards our Quest/GAP and/or Outreach programs.
