The Outreach program is a 16-day Physical and Health Education credit course that introduces and focuses on outdoor summer activities. Students spend seven days at the Gould Lake Outdoor Centre learning new skills and preparing for a nine-day canoe trip into the wilderness of Algonquin Park.

This program teaches students how to live side-by-side with one another, challenge themselves mentally and physically and how to canoe trip safely using low-impact practices.

Successful students will receive a Grade 10 phys-ed credit in our outdoor classroom. Outreach is a stepping stone to our Outdoor Pursuits and Outdoor Skills programs. The cost is $690.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we go in Algonquin Park?
We get a chance to explore many parts of the park. Each trip, or set of two trips, will go on their own route through Algonquin Park. What is similar between each route is the opportunity to travel through the interior of the park where very few people get a chance to see because of its remoteness. The exact routes will be available for parents to see on the sixth day of each session at the bus pick up.

How big will my canoe trip group be?
Algonquin Park limits the number of people per campsite to nine. Each trip will have both a male and a female instructor along with seven students. For some sessions of Outreach, one or two of these students will be doing their placement after completing the Wilderness Instructors Course (WIC).
